Guardian Heritage
The Cane Corso was never meant to be simply an impressive dog. Its roots are those of a capable working guardian, powerful enough to protect, athletic enough to work, intelligent enough to assess a situation, and deeply connected to its family.
That heritage has always been at the heart of Castlerock.
Our family's journey with the Cane Corso began in the mid-1990s, when our parents brought the breed into our home and produced the first Castlerock litter. For my sisters and me, Cane Corsos weren't simply dogs our family owned or bred. We grew up alongside them. We helped care for puppies, lived with the adults, learned their temperaments and watched the breed develop in America while we were growing up ourselves.
Over the decades, we experienced different bloodlines, countries of origin and phenotypes within the breed. We saw substantial dogs with tremendous bone, mass and strength, more athletic dogs with drive and stamina, calm and discerning guardians, highly interactive companions, and dogs with the intensity and courage to work when called upon.
Those experiences shaped our understanding of what the Cane Corso can be at its best.

A New Chapter
As life changed, Castlerock stepped away from breeding for a time. Families grew, grandchildren came along and priorities shifted. But the Cane Corso never left our family.
Today, with the space and opportunity to build again, Castlerock begins its next chapter. We return to breeding with something we could not have had when the program first began, more than thirty years of living with, observing and learning from the breed.
That experience has given us a clear vision.
We aren't interested in choosing between power and athleticism, size and function, or guardian instinct and family stability. We believe the most impressive Cane Corso is the one that brings those qualities together.
Our vision is an all around working guardian with substantial bone, muscle and strength, yet enough athleticism, drive and stamina to use it. A dog with confidence and courage, balanced by intelligence and discernment. A natural protector of family and property that can also live beside that family with loyalty and stability.
We are not trying to reinvent the Cane Corso. We are building toward the most complete expression of the breed we have spent a lifetime knowing.
Every generation should honor what came before it while improving what comes next.
